Spring Beauty Picks

Greetings, Quarterletters! Although it may not feel like springtime yet, the new season is quickly approaching.  Let your makeup bag take a tip from your wardrobe- lighten up, lose the heavy layers, and play with color!

1. Garnier B.B. Creme

B.B. Creme is like an amped up tinted moisturizer, providing brightening and renewing attributes as well as hydration, sun protection, and natural coverage.  The result is fresh and dewy skin.

Pro Tip: If you have dry skin, add a little argan oil to amp up the moisture.  Oily?  Keep oil blotting sheets in your bag to control shine without changing the finish.

2. Maybeline Color Whisper Lipstick

These gel-based, super hydrating lipsticks are what I like to call “pocket products”- you can keep them in your pocket and can apply them without a mirror.  You end up with a supple wash of moisturizing color that feels as good as it looks.

Pro Tip: For longer wear and more intense color, bring a lip liner in a comparable shade (or a little darker).  Fill your lip in with the pencil and apply the lipstick on top.

3. Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact

Bobbi’s shimmer brick is one of the most versatile and coveted products on the market.  Lilac Rose, a soft pastel collection featuring baby pinks and purples with a pearlescent finish is the perfect way to welcome Spring.

Pro Tip: Tap an eyeshadow brush into any of the shades and apply to the lid for a wash of soft color.  Swirl a powder brush across the whole brick and apply to cheeks and decolletage for a radiant glow.

4.Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil

Pencil liners are my “go to” product when I literally have 30 seconds to fake a done-up face.  Draw a line along the upper and lower lash lines and smudge with a q-tip for a diffused smokey eye.

Pro Tip #1: Tap a little translucent powder on top to keep the liner from smudging

Pro Tip #2: Play with color!  For blue eyes, try Lucky (deep copper) or El Dorado (gold).  Green eyes will pop against Lust (deep purple) or Gunmetal (glimmering dark grey).  Brighten hazel eyes with Ransom (bright iridescent purple) or Woodstock (sparkling hot pink).  Brown eyes look striking against Electric (bright iridescent teal) or Deviant (electric blue).

5. Makeup Forever Smokey Lash in Dark Blue

If bright eyeliner seems a little daunting, play with mascara instead!  You can treat blue mascara the same way you treat black- have fun with it.

Pro Tip: My favorite way to wear colored mascara is with a bright natural eye.  Swipe on an eyeshadow that matches your skin tone and line the inner water line with a peach or white pencil.  Two coats of mascara on your top and bottom lashes will seal the deal!
