During a period of immense change and uncertainty – new job, new apartment, newly single – Jen Scullin decided to invest her time, energy and passion into something bigger than herself: she founded a non-profit organization established to raise money for cancer research.
The Kicking Cancer Foundation was Jen’s outlet to do what she loved: bring friends together to have a good time, all while supporting an important cause.
The concept was to create a one-day, one-time kickball tournament in Philadelphia, where each player’s registration fee was a donation to a local cancer research facility.
This one-time event quickly became an annual tradition with the most recent event in August welcoming 545 players (545!!), 48 kickball teams, and over $45,000 raised, bringing their total funds raised to over $130,000.
While volunteerism was always a big part of her life, Jen says that starting this organization from scratch was one of the most rewarding experiences she has ever had. The result? Hundreds of participants pouring all of their passion for this cause into one unforgettable kickball game.
The Kicking Cancer Foundation is currently just in Philly, but Jen and her team are starting to think about expanding to other cities as well. So you better start practicing those kicks. (We’re hoping they expand to NYC soon!).

Jen- your accomplishments are inspiring and we wish you, and PKC, lots of continued success.
