Standing Up (to Cancer)!

SEPTEMBER 5, 2012

Many years ago, in our early twenties, Rachel and I lucked out with the opportunity to attend Condé Nast’s Fashion Rocks concert – a huge celebrity-packed event over at Radio City Music Hall – back in September 2008.   Our heads were turning to “ooo” and “ahh” at whichever star or household name was walking down the aisles near us.  Should any of them have actually looked back at us, we would have probably tumbled into our seats giggling at our good fortune.  The evening’s purpose was to celebrate and kick off New York’s Fashion Week, but it also had another purpose – to support Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), an Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) organization.

SU2C’s mission is to raise funds to support groundbreaking translational cancer research that will result in new therapies quickly and help save lives.  Fashion Rocks helps to create awareness about SU2C and its exciting work.  So, along with catching Anna Wintour and her daughter traipsing down the aisle, we saw 12 stars, including Mariah Carey, Carrie Underwood, Natasha Beddingfield and Beyonce, collaborate on a charity single, “Just Stand Up,” in support of the organization.   Their performance was fed into the the live SU2C telecast airing simultaneously.  It was symbolic of bringing everyone together to help in the fight against cancer and to motivate viewers to help.

This year, as Quarterlettes, we were fortunate to be asked to be officially part of SU2C and send a representative to attend the SU2C telecast fundraiser this Friday, September 7th.  The benefit will be broadcasted by many major networks (listed below), each of which donated the airtime.  Appearing there will be fellow supporters Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Michael Douglas, Jessica Biel, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Seth Rogen, Emma Stone, Katie Couric, Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Alicia Keys, Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Justin Timberlake, Sofia Vergara, Gabrielle Douglas, Missy Franklin and Tim McGraw. They are coming together to move viewers with impactful stories and drive them to donate.   Along with these tales, Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Alicia Keys and Tim McGraw will be giving exclusive live performances.  How about that for getting your award-season fix early?

Needless to say, we’re honored to be a part of it.

Watch the show and stay tuned to Quarterlette’s live updates from the red carpet and during the telecast.  Our L.A. Correspondent, Meghan Wilson, will be there to give all the details.  Follow the feed at #Qlette4SU2C and on Facebook.
